The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has added a festive touch to train journeys by distributing traditional modaks to passengers travelling on CSMT-MAO Tejas Express during Ganesh Chaturthi, an official statement said on Tuesday.
The initiative will continue throughout the Ganpati festival, bringing the spirit of the celebrations to passengers travelling between Mumbai and Madgaon, it said.
Gaurav Jha, Group General Manager of IRCTC, West Zone, Mumbai, said the initiative was aimed at bringing the flavour and warmth of Ganesh Chaturthi to passengers during their journey.
Modak is traditionally associated with Lord Ganesha and is considered one of the deity's favourite offerings during the festival. Its distribution added a cultural and festive element to the onboard experience.

Several passengers praised IRCTC for celebrating the cultural traditions of Maharashtra while making their journey more memorable.
The initiative is part of IRCTC's efforts to enhance the passenger experience through culturally relevant activities during important festivals and occasions.
IRCTC said the distribution of modaks will continue throughout the Ganpati festival, helping maintain a festive atmosphere onboard the train.
The corporation extended its wishes to passengers for a happy, safe and auspicious Ganesh Chaturthi.
Meanwhile, from the busy and narrow lanes of Lalbaug in central Mumbai to neighbourhoods across the city, the festive spirit was visible everywhere. Streets were filled with devotees, music and colourful decorations as communities prepared to celebrate the arrival of the deity.
Elaborately decorated pandals, featuring intricate artwork and creative themes, added to the festive atmosphere. These temporary structures have become an important part of Mumbai's annual Ganeshotsav celebrations.
