I am 75 years old and was born and brought up near Matunga Road along the Western Railway. The lane under TH Kataria flyover has no footpath and has become a dumping ground for garbage. Kindly bring this to the notice of the authorities so that they can clear the area at the earliest and install a footpath.

There is absolute chaos at Churchgate station most of the time and it seems no one cares. There is no traffic regulation whatsoever, and pedestrian are seen walking on the major roads and intersection near the railway station. Motorbikes are plying on the wrong side of the roads and breaking all traffic rules. The police are just bystanders. The Maharishi Karve Road junction is always jammed and the road near the train station, has taxis illegally parked. Pedestrians fearlessly walk on the main road barely allowing a single lane for the cars to snake through. This is a safety hazard and must be looked into.

The severe accumulation of solid waste and discarded debris in Jogeshwari West's Momin Nagar demands immediate intervention to mitigate significant public health and environmental hazards, particularly for the vulnerable children living in the area. We urge the BMC to urgently deploy cleanup crews and implement a sustainable waste management solution by establishing designated garbage bins and enforcing regular collection schedules. Furthermore, a joint community-awareness campaign must be launched to discourage illegal dumping, coupled with strict penalization for littering, to ensure a safe, hygienic, and livable environment for all residents.

There is a need for the BEST to introduce services from CSMT to Mahul Village and Mulund Depot via BPT Road which will help many commuters, mainly workers, women and students who travel on this commute without changing two or more modes of transport.

I am writing to bring to your immediate attention the severe traffic chaos, lawlessness, and acute safety hazards at three major junctions in Kalyan: Durgadi Fort Circle, Suchak Naka Circle, and Chakinaka Circle. The traffic police are doing their absolute best to manage the situation manually, but the root cause of the daily gridlock is a complete lack of civic sense among the public.
Without automated signals to strictly restrict movement, driving has become completely lawless. At Durgadi Fort Circle, there is currently no traffic signal installed. Commuters show absolutely no driving discipline, driving haphazardly in any direction they find space. In the absence of automated signals to bound them, this reckless attitude creates tremendous daily gridlock and frequent minor accidents.
A similarly critical situation exists at Suchak Naka Circle in Kalyan East. Although the traffic signal infrastructure is physically present, it remains completely non-functional. Because the signal is inactive, drivers completely ignore the roundabout rules.
Instead of following the circle to safely makea turn, vehicles directly cut across the junction from any direction just to take shortcuts. Furthermore, the traffic signal at Chakinaka Circle is also non-functioning. Because the automated system is down, commuters abandon all traffic etiquette.
Vehicles move unmonitored in overlapping directions, exacerbating the gridlock across Kalyan East and making daily commuting a nightmare. The manual efforts of the on-duty personnel are simply not enough to control a public that refuses to follow basic traffic ethics. Automated signal enforcement is the only way to compel compliance.

BMC responds: Point-wise clarification on issues raised
1. Delay in Issuance of Birth Certificates
Birth certificates pertaining to newly registered birth events are issued immediately within prescribed time limits as per the Act. However, in case of digitisation of old events, as old records and supporting documents need to be verified, the process takes time.
2. There is requirement of a New
Format Certificate before correction of existing birth records
3. Authority and rationale for the revised procedure
As per the guidelines issued by the Registrar General of India and the Chief Registrar, Births and Deaths, Maharashtra State, Pune, dated 19.06.2026, old birth events prior to 2016 are required to be digitised and entered into the Civil Registration System portal first after verification with main records as is.
The records are then uploaded on the CRS portal and QR-coded birth certificates are generated, following which corrections may be undertaken in accordance with the prescribed procedure and applicable guidelines. Applicants seeking digitisation of old certificates are required to produce the previously issued birth certificate to facilitate identification and, verification of the relevant record.
4. Daily limit on issuance of birth certificates
There are no such limits for issuing the certificates, however it depends on existing workload
5. Online downloading of birth certificates
Citizens can download birth certificates only if the applicant's email ID has been correctly recorded in the system at the time of registration and the informant has received the corresponding email confirmation.
