Thane: Indian Rock Python rescued after getting trapped in plastic toy ring

A routine wildlife rescue operation in Thane turned unusual after members of the Wildlife Welfare Association (WWA) rescued an Indian Rock Python that was found entangled in a plastic toy ring inside a residential property.

The rescue team was alerted by a resident who spotted a snake inside the house with an unidentified object stuck around its body. Upon reaching the spot, WWA members identified the reptile as an Indian Rock Python and discovered that it had become trapped in a discarded plastic ring toy.

Using specialised equipment, rescuers carefully removed the object without causing any harm or stress to the snake. A detailed health check-up revealed that the python had not sustained any injuries.

After the assessment, the reptile was safely released into a suitable natural habitat.

WWA highlighted that such incidents reflect the increasing encounters between wildlife and urban spaces, often triggered by plastic waste and rapid urban expansion. The organisation urged citizens to avoid handling wild animals and immediately contact trained rescuers or the Forest Department in such situations.
