Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya is upping the ante on his demand to deport actor Imran Khan, after the latter participated in ongoing protests calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In videos circulating on social media during the protests at August Kranti Maidan on Saturday, October 10, Khan was seen talking to the media before being placed in a police van.
Somaiya wrote on his X account that he visited Gamdevi police station on Monday and asked for action against Khan. He added that the police have assured him they will summon the actor.
Somaiya also posted that he filed a complaint with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer Immigration Division at Mumbai airport.
Somaiya alleged, "Everybody knows Khan was born and brought up in the USA and is a US citizen. He has knowingly violated certain conditions."
Asked about accusations that Khan's selfie inside a police van and his social media post stating, "apparently I'm going for a drive," were for attention, Somaiya responded, "I have nothing to say to all this, and cannot comment whether this is for attention or whatever. I have nothing to do with his personal life or career. I reiterate that he should be deported. That is all I am concerned with."
Khan did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment on the same.
