Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced that the state government had received the first list of 282 Navy Agniveers from Maharashtra from the Centre. Accordingly, all 282 Agniveers - 150 Seaman Deckside and 132 Seaman Engineside personnel - have been appointed as police constables, and their appointment orders have been issued.

In a post on X, Fadnavis said, "We had decided in the state cabinet to provide reservation in government jobs to the Agneepveers fighting for the country. Accordingly, necessary changes have been made in the rules, and now approval has been granted to appoint 282 Agneepveers. My heartfelt best wishes to all of them in their new roles."

Earlier, on September 29, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved direct recruitment of retired Agniveers into the state police force and allied uniformed services without requiring them to appear for competitive examinations or undergo fresh training.

Under the policy, the state government has introduced a 10 per cent horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers across Group-C uniformed posts, including the police force, fire services and coastal security, news agency IANS reported.

Ex-Agniveers will be inducted into state police and other uniformed services without appearing for recruitment examinations or repeating initial training modules. The policy also provides for relaxation of the upper age limit to accommodate former Agniveers seeking employment with the state government.

Personnel discharged from the Indian Navy will be directly integrated into Maharashtra's coastal security wing. Post-sanction caps will be relaxed as a special case to accommodate all interested Navy veterans. The policy will also extend to other state security cadres, including the Fire Department and correctional security forces, Fadnavis said.

Maharashtra to offer Agniveers direct entry into police and uniformed services

"The first batch of Agniveers will soon complete their four-year service tenure. Every Agniveer who wishes to transition into state government service will be absorbed directly into our police and uniformed services without exam or training barriers," he stated.

The move is part of Maharashtra's efforts to establish post-service employment opportunities for personnel recruited under the Armed Forces' Agnipath scheme.

By removing the requirement for fresh examinations and training, the state aims to utilise the military experience of former Agniveers to strengthen its frontline security services while providing them with long-term career opportunities.
