Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has formally requested the Central government's approaval for the proposed ring metro project in Thane.

The news was confirmed by an official from the district administration.

During his recent trip to Delhi on Friday, CM Eknath Shinde met with Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to present the proposed project awaiting approval from the Centre, the official reported. Accompanying the Chief Minister were Principal Secretary Brijesh Singh and Administrative Director of Mahametro, Shravan Hardikar.

According to a statement released by the district administration, a comprehensive plan for a 29-km Thane ring metro project has been drafted and submitted to the Centre for their review and approval.

"We are committed to completing various development projects in Maharashtra on time," the Chief Minister mentioned during the meeting.

In-depth discussions about the Thane Metro took place during this meeting. Currently, two metro projects are underway in Thane city. Given the city's growth and increasing population, there's a daily footfall of 7 to 8 lakh passengers at the single railway station in Thane. Hence, the Chief Minister has submitted the detailed project report of the 29 km long Thane Ring Metro to the center, also requesting an increase in the number of metro coaches.

"The Ring Metro project is essential for the fast and convenient commute of Thane residents," stated Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Thane ring metro project, spanning 22 stations along its route, will comprise 26 km elevated track and 3 km underground track, the statement explained.

Additionally, one of the underground metro stations will be linked to Thane railway station, while other stations will integrate with the metro corridor, according to the release.
