Senior IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Maharashtra.

He replaces Shridhar Dube Patil, who has now been transferred as the Chief Executive Officer of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Mundhe is widely known for his strict administrative approach and tough decision-making style. Over the years, he has served in several important government departments and civic bodies, including the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

His tenure in previous postings has often been marked by strong action against irregularities, corruption and violations of rules.

His appointment has already sparked discussion in administrative and political circles across Maharashtra.

Key challenges

Officials in the FDA department believe Mundhe's appointment comes at an important time for the state.

Maharashtra has recently witnessed growing concerns over drug regulation, counterfeit medicines and food safety enforcement. Sources said the government expects tighter monitoring and stricter implementation of regulations under Mundhe's leadership.

The FDA is responsible for monitoring the quality and sale of medicines, food products and healthcare-related services across the state.

Dube Patil shifted to SRA

Outgoing FDA Commissioner Shridhar Dube Patil has now been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The SRA plays a major role in redevelopment projects across Mumbai and nearby regions, especially large-scale slum rehabilitation and housing projects.

Officials said Dube Patil handled several important monitoring drives and regulatory actions during his tenure at the FDA.

The reshuffle is being viewed as part of the government's effort to strengthen governance and improve regulatory enforcement in key departments.
