Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday launched a series of digital initiatives, including MahaINDUS, a secure artificial intelligence (AI) platform, and new services under MahaDBT 2.0, Aaple Sarkar 2.0 and the MAITRI portal, to improve transparency, accountability and efficiency in government administration.
The launches took place during a review meeting of the MahaSarthi portal chaired by CM Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.
The Chief Minister said the use of AI, integrated databases and digital systems would help the government identify eligible beneficiaries, verify claims, assess the effectiveness of welfare schemes and improve the delivery of public services.
Fadnavis said MahaID would help consolidate citizens' information and improve the efficiency and accountability of government departments. More than one crore IDs have been generated since the system's soft launch, he said.
Once backend integration across all departments is completed, the platform will be rolled out on a wider scale.
Integrated digital systems will also help officials search government resolutions, manage correspondence and simplify routine administrative work. Fadnavis said Maharashtra was the first state in the country to use sovereign AI in this manner.
Developed in collaboration with Sarvam AI, MahaINDUS is designed to support drafting, translation, summarisation and data analysis in 22 Indian languages, including Marathi.
According to the government, safeguards have been put in place to prevent government data from leaving the country or being used to train AI models.
The platform includes three key features: âGR Expert' to search government resolutions and track changes, âEmail Summariser' to condense email correspondence, and âRFP Bid Evaluator' to compare and assess tenders.
Fadnavis said the MahaSarthi initiative was nearing completion and directed departments to finish the pending components at the earliest.
He said integrating departmental databases through application programming interfaces (APIs) would enable regular data updates and improve the implementation of schemes, fund utilisation and beneficiary verification.
The system is expected to help departments identify eligible and ineligible recipients of individual-benefit schemes and assess whether government programmes are delivering their intended outcomes.
Fadnavis stressed that launching digital platforms was not enough, adding that departments needed to use them actively and encourage wider adoption.
Greater use of these systems would help officials identify technical shortcomings and operational challenges and address them in time, he said. He also directed departments to meet deadlines and plan the next stages of implementation.
Under MahaDBT 2.0, the government launched 36 new schemes, including 24 from the Fisheries Department, 10 from the Labour Department and two from the Women and Child Development Department.
Aaple Sarkar 2.0 has added 71 services across departments, including 61 from the Transport Department. The MAITRI portal has introduced 13 new services from the Legal Metrology Department.
The meeting was attended by Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane, State Right to Public Services Commission Chief Commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastava, Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Department Secretary Virendra Singh, and senior officials, divisional commissioners and district collectors.
