The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday extended the deadline for submitting objections to the voters' list for the upcoming Maharashtra local body elections.

Under the revised schedule, the previous deadline of November 27 for filing objections has now been pushed to December 3. Likewise, the earlier date of December 5 for publishing the final voters' list has been extended to December 10.

The SEC, in an official notification, stated that the earlier schedule has been amended.

According to the revised schedule, the timetable is as follows:

Last date to file objections and suggestions on the draft voter list:
Earlier date: 27 November 2025
Revised date: 3 December 2025

Final publication of ward-wise voter lists after resolving objections:
Earlier date: 5 December 2025
Revised date: 10 December 2025

Publication of the list of polling station locations:
Earlier date: 8 December 2025
Revised date: 15 December 2025

Publication of polling station-wise voter lists:
Earlier date: 12 December 2025
Revised date: 22 December 2025

The SEC has advised that any technical issues during the preparation of voter lists should be reported via email.

Several opposition parties, including the Shiv Sena (UBT), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), and the Congress, earlier had also flagged serious discrepancies in the electoral rolls.

These alleged allegations put up by the parties include duplicate entries, incorrect addresses, mismatched ages, and even erroneous gender details. The scale of errors raised major concerns over the accuracy and credibility of the voter lists.

Following objections by the opposition parties, about 11 lakh duplicate names, the SEC and BMC too have agreed to the same and are considering an extension for the date to file objections.

The draft voter list for the BMC polls was released on November 20 and had mentioned December 5 as the last date for filing objections.

Immediately after the announcement, the Thackeray cousins - Uddhav and Raj - signed a letter asking for a minimum 21-day extension for filing objections.

The election for the BMC is scheduled before January 31, 2026, as per the deadline set by the Supreme Court.

The last elections were held in 2017, and the five-year tenure of the elected corporator for the BMC came to an end in 2022.
