Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and Mumbai Bank Chairman Praveen Darekar was trapped in a lift for about 20 minutes on Sunday in Vasai area of Palghar district in Maharashtra, officials said.
The incident took place while he was on his way to attend a self-redevelopment awareness event.
The event was held at Kaul Heritage City, where Darekar was invited as the chief guest. Local police personnel and a rescue team quickly arrived at the scene and helped bring him and the others out safely, they said.
The lift suddenly stopped working, leaving Darekar and others stuck inside. The situation caused concern among attendees and organisers at the venue.
No injuries were reported, and Darekar continued with the programme after being rescued. The cause of the lift malfunction is yet to be confirmed, the officials said.
