Congress MLA Sajid Khan Pathan says he received a threat call linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang; the opposition seeks enhanced security.

Congress MLA Sajid Khan Pathan on Thursday claimed that he received an international phone call threatening him from a person who identified himself as Shubham Lonkar, allegedly claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Raising the issue in the Maharashtra Assembly, Pathan, while speaking at the House, asserted that he had received the threat from an international number. Congress MLA urged the government to take the matter seriously and ensure their safety.

The incident prompted members of the Opposition to demand enhanced security for all legislators in the state. They argued that MLAs should be provided adequate protection in view of increasing threats against public representatives.

Opposition members also referred to the security provided to filmmaker Rohit Shetty following recent threat calls, saying elected representatives should receive similar protection if they face credible security concerns.

Responding to the issue, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar directed the state government to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged threat. Narwekar also asked the authorities to take appropriate steps to provide the necessary security to Pathan based on the assessment of the threat.
