Police arrested five people in Maharashtra's Parbhani after an examination supervisor allegedly photographed a question paper on her mobile phone minutes after the examination began at a nursing school and sent it to her sister, police said on Sunday.
The alleged malpractice occurred during the first-year General Nursing and Midwifery examination at the Indira Gandhi ANM Nursing School on Friday, an official told news agency PTI.
Police arrested the accused, examination supervisor Rakhi Chavan, her sister Rani, Pratiksha Kiran Khillare, Ishwar Baraboina, and Dilip Borkar, in connection with the incident.
According to the police, Rakhi, who was deployed as an examination supervisor at the centre in Parbhani, allegedly took a photograph of the question paper on her mobile phone soon after the examination commenced at 10.30 am and sent it to her sister via WhatsApp.
The alleged malpractice came to light during an inspection by central inspectors, the official said.
Suspecting that the question paper had been taken out of the examination centre while the test was in progress, centre inspector Vishwajit Mathapati searched the female invigilator.
During a check of her mobile phone, officials allegedly found a photograph of the question paper, the news agency reported.
Despite the incident, the examination was conducted as scheduled without interruption, the official said.
Police were immediately informed about the alleged malpractice. Based on a complaint lodged by centre inspector Vishwajit Mathapati, a case was registered against the five accused under the Maharashtra Examination Act, the official added.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday sought responses from the Centre and the state governments on a PIL seeking directions to confiscate movable and immovable property of offenders and their family members involved in exam question paper leak cases.
A bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe issued notice to the Union of India and states on the plea filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay.
During the hearing, Upadhyay, while submitting the plea at the apex court, said that he was not pressing his prayer seeking measures to ensure a time-bound probe and trial in question paper leak cases, as the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which tightens anti-paper leak laws, has been passed, news agency PTI reported.
