Work on the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road (DBLR), a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Mumbai and the Mira-Bhayandar region, is progressing, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) targeting completion by December 2028.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar inspected the project site at the Bhayandar Interchange in the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation area and reviewed the ongoing works. He also issued directions regarding the project's implementation and safety measures.

The DBLR is part of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North), an ambitious BMC infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and providing smoother connectivity. The larger project, including interchanges and link roads, spans around 60 km and is expected to connect Vesave and Bhayandar through the Coastal Road network.

The Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project has been divided into seven packages - A, B, C, D, E, F, and the DBLR.

The DBLR project has a total length of around 5.135 km and will provide a direct and faster road connection between Dahisar West and Bhayandar West. The project includes several engineering structures, including an elevated road, a road on stilts through mangrove areas, an elevated structure over the creek, an elevated road through salt-pan areas, connecting roads and interchanges, and flyovers.

60 piles, five pile caps and four piers completed

The main elevated road under the DBLR project is around 3.83 km long and 45 metres wide. It forms the final section of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North).

During his inspection, Bangar reviewed the preliminary works underway at the site. Gabion wall fencing work is currently in progress, while piles and pile caps are being constructed as part of the foundation work for the elevated structure.

According to the civic body, 60 piles, five pile caps, four piers, pier caps and nine segments of the bridge structure have been completed so far.

Modern construction equipment has been deployed at the site, while a temporary access bridge is operational to facilitate project work.

Work on the launching girder is scheduled to begin in the second week of October, and Bangar reviewed the preparations and details related to the upcoming work.

BMC sets December 2028 deadline

Bangar directed officials to expedite the land acquisition process required for the project and establish a priority sequence for the remaining acquisition work. He also called for coordination with various authorities and cooperation from the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation.

He directed officials and contractors to strictly follow prescribed safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure adequate barricading at the site while construction is underway.

Bangar also instructed officials to ensure that the works are completed with due attention to quality and within the stipulated timeframe.

The project should be planned and implemented with the target of completing the DBLR by December 2028, he said.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Infrastructure) Girish Nikam, Deputy Chief Engineer (Mumbai Coastal Road-North) Vaibhav Gandhi, along with the engineers and consultants concerned, were present during the inspection.
