The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across Maharashtra to ensure voter lists are accurate and up to date ahead of future elections.
The drive covers verification of existing voters, registration of new voters, correction of voter details and removal of ineligible entries.
Registered voters have been asked to complete an enumeration form and keep it ready for verification by their Booth Level Officer (BLO), who will visit homes as part of the revision exercise.
The deadline for completing the enumeration process is August 8, 2026.
Voters who complete the process will have their names included in the draft electoral roll, which is scheduled to be published on August 17, 2026.
Eligible citizens whose names do not appear in the draft voter list, as well as first-time voters, can apply for registration between August 17 and September 16, 2026.
Applicants will need to submit Form 6 along with the required declarations and supporting documents.
During the same period, existing voters can:
- Apply for corrections to their details using Form 8.
- Object to an entry or request the removal of an ineligible voter using Form 7.
- Warning against false declarations
Election authorities have warned that providing false information during the revision process is a punishable offence.
Under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, anyone found deliberately making false statements or declarations may face imprisonment of up to one year, a fine, or both.
After examining all applications, corrections and objections, the final electoral roll will be published on October 19, 2026.
Officials have urged citizens to verify their details carefully to avoid any issues before the final list is released.
The official statement said that voter registration and corrections will continue even after the publication of the final electoral roll.
Under Sections 22 and 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, eligible citizens can continue to apply for inclusion in the electoral roll using Form 6.
Applications can be submitted up to the last date for filing nominations for any election, ensuring that eligible voters still have an opportunity to register.
