In a bid to increase the number of passengers of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses during the non-peak season, the transport body on Sunday announced that commuters will receive a 15 percent discount on ticket prices on making advance reservations for long-distance travel. Speaking on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the corporation, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said the scheme will be implemented from July. This will benefit many people traveling by buses such as e-Shivneri, he added.

"The goal will be to make ST the number one transport organisation in the country, which not only provides quality facilities to passengers but also empowers employees financially," he said.

Sarnaik also lauded the corporation and said that for the past 77 years, ST buses have been continuously providing passenger services to all sections of society, from villages to tribal hamlets, regardless of the challenges. "There are very few institutions in the country that have survived for more than 75 years and the ST Corporation is one of them. Even after 77 years, the importance of ST buses in Maharashtra has not diminished at all. Therefore, I am confident that our ST will continue to enjoy public support in the future. Considering the possible changes in the transport sector, we intend to provide safer and cleaner 'Smart ST' to passengers," he said.

On this occasion, a coffee table book titled 'ST Cha Vahannama', a graphical depiction of the journey of MSRTC over the past 77 years, was prepared by a fan organisation, 'Bus for Us' and released by the dignitaries.
