MSRTC to launch ‘Aapli Bus, Aapli Seva’ campaign from May 1 across Maharashtra

Maharashtra's iconic red buses are set for a major service revamp with the launch of a statewide campaign titled ‘Aapli Bus, Aapli Seva (Our Bus, Our Service)' from May 1, 2026.

Announcing the initiative, Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik said the campaign aims to restore passengers' faith in the state transport corporation by improving punctuality, cleanliness, discipline and the overall travel experience.

"The number of ST buses has increased, but passenger numbers and revenue have not grown as expected. Through this campaign, we want to give a human touch to the service and strengthen the bond between passengers and MSRTC," Sarnaik said.

As part of the drive, bus drivers and conductors will no longer be seen merely as staff but as ‘sevaks' (dedicated servers).

Key measures under the campaign include thorough cleaning of buses before every trip, punctual arrival at bus stands, neat uniforms and disciplined behaviour by staff, drivers introducing themselves to passengers and announcing the route, stops and expected arrival time before departure, as well as prompt assistance during the journey.

The campaign also urges passengers to become active partners by maintaining cleanliness inside buses, keeping valuables safe, placing luggage properly, and using NCMC smart cards and online booking facilities.

MSRTC promises alternate travel arrangements, cleaner stations, and faster complaint redressal

In case of bus cancellation or en-route problems, passengers will be provided alternate arrangements immediately. Bus stations will be kept clean and secure, while a dedicated system will be established for quick redressal of complaints.

Dr Madhav Kusekar, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of MSRTC, has issued a detailed circular to all departments for the smooth implementation of the campaign.

Minister Sarnaik described the initiative as a "new bridge of trust" between the MSRTC and passengers.

"From May 1, every journey in the red bus should become a pleasant, respectful and satisfying experience," he added.

The campaign will be rolled out across Maharashtra from Labour Day, May 1, 2026.

On April 15, mid-day.com had reported that Sarnaik directed officials to take concrete and comprehensive steps to reduce the corporation's mounting financial losses in the 2025-26 financial year. Emphasising the need for immediate corrective action, Sarnaik outlined a clear roadmap aimed at strengthening the financial health of the state-run transport body.
