Maharashtra: Two-wheeler catches fire in Thane, firefighters douse blaze; no injuries reported

A parked two-wheeler was gutted after a fire broke out in Thane's Vartak Nagar area early Thursday morning, officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell said. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Fire reported near Vartak Nagar Police Station

According to officials, the fire was reported around 6:15 am on May 14 after the Disaster Management Cell received information from the Wagle Fire Station.

The incident took place near Anugrah Hotel, beside Alliance Biryani, opposite Vartak Nagar Police Station in Bhim Nagar, Thane West.

Vehicle owner yet to be identified

The vehicle involved was an Aprilia Storm 125 bearing registration number MH 43 BV 7116. The owner of the two-wheeler has not yet been identified.

Fire brigade rushes to the spot

Teams from the Vartak Nagar Police Station, the Disaster Management Cell, and the Fire Brigade rushed to the spot with a pickup vehicle, rescue vehicle, and fire engine. Firefighters managed to completely extinguish the blaze.

Two-wheeler completely gutted

Officials said the two-wheeler was completely destroyed in the fire due to severe damage caused by the flames. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Similar incident reported on Kalwa-Mumbra Road

In a similar incident last week, a car was completely destroyed after it caught fire near Kharegaon Toll Naka on the Kalwa-Mumbra Road in Thane district of Maharashtra, officials said, adding that the driver of the vehicle escaped unhurt in the incident.

They said that the vehicle caught fire at the Retibandar in the Kalwa area.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the incident took place at around 2.15 pm on May 10 on the carriageway heading from Thane towards Mumbra.

Driver escapes safely

Officials said the driver of the car was travelling from Ghatkopar to Dombivli at the time of the incident.

After noticing the fire, the driver immediately stopped the vehicle on one side of the road and stepped out safely as a precautionary measure.

The RDMC said that the driver was alone in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
