The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat alert for Mumbai, Thane, and parts of the Konkan region, forecasting hot and humid conditions over the next four days as temperatures rise in May.

Both Mumbai and Thane are under a yellow alert, with the IMD predicting a spike in heat and humidity in isolated pockets from Wednesday. Weather conditions are expected to remain largely dry in these regions on Tuesday.

Konkan districts on alert

Ratnagiri is also under a yellow alert, with the IMD forecasting a mix of hot and humid weather along with the possibility of light rainfall.

Sindhudurg, meanwhile, is expected to witness more varied weather conditions, including hot and humid spells, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds blowing at 30-40 kmph in isolated areas.

Bhandara district is under a yellow alert on Tuesday, with the IMD predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph at isolated places.

Weather to shift from May 6

While most districts in Maharashtra are likely to remain dry on Tuesday, weather conditions are expected to change from May 6, with a combination of heat, humidity, and thunderstorm activity across several regions.

Rain alerts in Marathwada, western Maharashtra

According to IMD data, districts including Dharashiv, Latur, Nanded, and Solapur are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places.

Mumbai to witness hot day as temperature hovers around 35 degrees Celsius

Meanwhile, Mumbai and its suburbs experienced partly cloudy skies during the morning hours, turning mainly clear by the afternoon and evening.

The city is set for a hot day, with the IMD forecasting a maximum temperature of around 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

Air quality in Mumbai remained in the "satisfactory" category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) Sameer App, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 52.

Across key locations in Mumbai, Borivali East recorded an AQI of 68, Byculla 54, Andheri East 65, Chembur 41, Colaba 54, Ghatkopar 63, Kandivali West 53, and Bandra East 53.

In the surrounding regions, Thane recorded an AQI of 62, Kalyan 60, and Navi Mumbai 67, all remaining in the satisfactory range.
