IMD issues yellow alert across several districts in Maharashtra
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Tuesday, issued a widespread weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of rain, thunderstorms, lightning activity and gusty winds across multiple districts.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and winds reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated places across the state.
The alert covers Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg in the Konkan region, along with Nashik, Ahilyanagar and Pune in western Maharashtra.
In Marathwada, districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv are under warning.
In western and northern Maharashtra, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur are expected to experience unstable weather conditions.
Vidarbha districts, including Parbhani, Akola, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal have also been placed under the thunderstorm alert.
Despite the rain warning, most parts of Maharashtra continued to experience hot and humid conditions.
According to the IMD's Pune observatory report, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.8 degrees Celsius, indicating persistently warm conditions.
Mumbai also remained hot and humid with a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 30.0 degrees Celsius, reflecting typical coastal moisture-laden weather.
The hottest location in Maharashtra was Brahmapuri in Gadchiroli district, which recorded a maximum of 44.1 degrees Celsius, making it the highest temperature recorded in the state on Tuesday.
In contrast, Mahabaleshwar recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius, offering comparatively cooler hill station conditions.
Pune reported no rainfall (0.0 mm) during the observation period, with a rainfall deficit of -49.7 mm compared to normal levels, despite the monsoon calendar period.
The IMD stated that most regions across Maharashtra, including Vidarbha and the central parts of the state, continued to record above-normal daytime temperatures.
However, with changing atmospheric conditions, thunderstorms and rain activity are likely to continue in isolated pockets over the coming days.
