Mumbai and its neighbouring regions witnessed light rainfall on Thursday, while several parts of Maharashtra continued to receive moderate to heavy showers, with Wardha recording the highest rainfall at 88 mm during the 24-hour period ending Thursday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In Mumbai, the Colaba observatory, which represents the Island City, recorded a maximum temperature of 29.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27.3 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz, representing the suburbs, registered a maximum of 30.3 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27.4 degrees Celsius. Among the coastal stations, Alibag recorded a maximum temperature of 30.5 degrees Celsius, Ratnagiri 30.1 degrees Celsius, Panjim 30.9 degrees Celsius, and Dahanu 32 degrees Celsius. Among the Maharashtra stations listed in the IMD bulletin, Dahanu recorded the highest maximum temperature.
As of 5.30 pm, Mumbai had recorded 0.6 mm of rainfall, while Alibag and Dahanu received 1 mm and 2 mm of rain, respectively, according to the IMD, indicating light rainfall activity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and adjoining coastal areas.
Across Maharashtra, Wardha received the highest rainfall at 88 mm, followed by Yavatmal (76 mm), Mahabaleshwar (59 mm), Parbhani (42 mm), Akola (32 mm), Nagpur (29 mm), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (28 mm), Amravati (28 mm), Buldhana (19 mm), and Jalgaon (15 mm). Other places that received rainfall included Chandrapur (7 mm), Bramhapuri (5 mm), Ahilyanagar (3.8 mm), Nashik (3 mm), Solapur (3 mm), Gondia (3 mm), Kolhapur (1 mm), Lohgaon (0.6 mm), and Satara (0.3 mm). Pune did not record any rainfall during the observation period.
Temperature variations were also recorded across the state. Dahanu was the hottest location in Maharashtra with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, followed by Alibag (30.5 degrees Celsius), Santacruz (30.3 degrees Celsius), Ratnagiri (30.1 degrees Celsius), and Colaba (29.6 degrees Celsius). Mahabaleshwar recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature at 18.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Pune at 23.3 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast an overcast sky with light to moderate rainfall in Pune on Friday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places, with isolated locations expected to receive extremely heavy showers. The city is likely to record a maximum temperature of around 26 degrees Celsius and a minimum of around 22 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, Pune has received 572.9 mm of seasonal rainfall so far, which is 243 mm above the normal seasonal rainfall of 329.9 mm, reflecting a significant monsoon surplus this season.
