ambitious project consisting of four lanes will be completed on April 15, and vehicular traffic will be allowed only from May 1. The second side is expected to be ready after the monsoons.

The delay in opening the BWSL to traffic is because the MSRDC needs time to clear machines used for construction and to level the road. The biggest hurdle will be moving a 1,260-tonne crane from the south (Worli) to the north (Bandra). It will take over a week to move the crane.

A senior engineer from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) that is constructing the BWSL said, "We expect to connect Bandra with Worli anytime between April 15 and 18. But traffic will be allowed on the 5.6-km bridge only from May 1."

Sources in Mantralaya confirmed that Vimal Mundada, PWD minister and MSRDC chairperson, asked officials to start the BWSL by May 1 during a meeting yesterday.

At present, the project is in its last phase though two 50-metre pillars and four 24 metre pillars have yet to be connected at the Worli end.
