NCP (SP) delegation raises MHT-CET result concerns (Pic/Special arrangement)
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) on Tuesday demanded an impartial, transparent, and comprehensive inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET).
NCP (SP) also warned the state government of a strong agitation if meritorious students do not receive justice.
A delegation led by NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar met CET Cell Commissioner Dilip Sardesai in Mumbai and submitted a memorandum highlighting concerns over the examination process and the recently declared MHT-CET results.
NCP (SP) further highlighted that the delegation held a detailed discussion with the commissioner regarding doubts raised by students over the results, alleged irregularities reported in the media, concerns surrounding certain examination centers, and the possibility of injustice to deserving candidates.
The delegation demanded that the entire examination process be investigated in a fair and transparent manner, free from external influence, and sought strict action against anyone found guilty of malpractice.
NCP (SP) also called for an investigation into cases where students who secured comparatively low marks in their Class 12 board examinations allegedly obtained exceptionally high percentiles in the MHT-CET.
While clarifying that no conclusions should be drawn solely from the difference in marks, the memorandum stated that cases attracting serious complaints and suspicion should undergo a technical and fact-based investigation.
As per the officials, the delegation urged authorities to verify answer sheets, examination processes, computer records, and result processing of the students concerned to establish the facts.
The NCP (SP) also demanded an independent investigation into allegations involving certain private examination centers and computer laboratories.
Referring to audio and video clips circulating on social media, the party alleged that they contain serious accusations of percentile inflation through financial transactions at some examination centers. It called for a thorough probe into the authenticity of the clips, the people involved, the examination centers concerned, and any alleged middlemen.
The memorandum further demanded that if any organized racket or collusion is uncovered, strict legal action should be initiated against those responsible.
The delegation from the NCP (SP) also urged the CET Cell to immediately secure CCTV footage, computer logs, server data, technical records of examination sessions, and other relevant evidence from examination centers against which complaints have been raised.
It further sought criminal action against examination center managements, officials, staff members, middlemen, or any other individuals found guilty of malpractice during the investigation.
Speaking after the meeting, Rohit Pawar criticised the state government's handling of the education system, saying any attempt to compromise students' futures would not be tolerated.
NCP (SP) spokesperson Adv. Amol Matele said the party would intensify its protest if the alleged irregularities are not investigated impartially.
"Serious questions are being raised about the state's education system. If a timely and impartial inquiry is not conducted and meritorious students do not get justice, we will take to the streets to fight for the students," Matele said.
The NCP (SP) maintained that it stands firmly with students and called on the government to ensure complete transparency in the examination process while addressing all allegations surrounding the MHT-CET results.
