The Hinduhridaysamrat Shiv Sena Pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray Middle Vaitarna Reservoir, which is one of the seven water reservoirs that supply water to Mumbai and other regions of Maharashtra, is 90 per cent full.

BMC on Monday, while posting information about the Hinduhridaysamrat Shiv Sena Pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray Middle Vaitarna Reservoir on social media platform X, stated, "Out of the 7 reservoirs supplying water to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area, the ├в┬А┬ШHinduhridaysamrat Shiv Sena Pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray Middle Vaitarna Reservoir' is approximately 90 per cent full as of today, July 7, 2025."

As informed by the BMC through a post on social media, the water level in the reservoir has reached 282.13 meters, which is just short of its full storage mark of 285 meters, as of Monday, July 7. In response to the rising water levels at Hinduhridaysamrat Shiv Sena Pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray Middle Vaitarna Reservoir, the concerned authorities have opened three dam gates, namely gate No. 1, gate No. 3, and gate No. 5, at around 1:15 PM. As per the information released by the BMC, all three gates have been opened by 30 centimetres each, with water currently being discharged at a controlled rate of 3000 cusecs.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, while stating about the lake levels and the status of the Hinduhridaysamrat Shiv Sena Pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray Middle Vaitarna Reservoir on X, said that "the full storage level of the Hinduhridaysamrat Shiv Sena Pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray Middle Vaitarna Reservoir is 285 meters, and the water level has reached 282.13 meters today."

"Due to continuous heavy rainfall, three gates of the dam (Gate No. 1, Gate No. 3, and Gate No. 5) were opened by 30 centimetres at 1:15 PM. Currently, water is being released at a rate of 3000 cusecs," the BMC said.

However, the release of water from the reservoir is being directed into the Modak Sagar (Lower Vaitarna) Reservoir, which ensures regulated downstream storage and reduces potential overflow risks, as per the information released by the BMC. Amid the rising water levels of the reservoir, civic officials continue to monitor the situation closely in order to avoid any unfortunate situation.

Earlier on Monday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data also revealed that total water stock in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai reached 982,413 million litres on Monday. This is 67.88 per cent of the total required stock for the season.

However, Mumbai received 44.00 mm of rainfall on Sunday, with the total rainfall now standing at 674.00 mm.
