Continuing Tuesday's crackdown on illegal call centers, the Thane police raided four establishments alleged to be extorting money from foreign nationals by pretending to be IRS (Internal Revenue Service) officers collecting tax. These call centers are near the ones that were raided on Tuesday.

Sources from the Thane police confirmed that they received information about the call centres from the 70 accused from Tuesday's raid of eight call centres. Around four teams raided the call centres, which were found closed. "News of Tuesday's raid spread across the country, alerting employees and bosses of these four call centres who took a quick decision and packed their bags," said a senior officer. The officers further added that they arrested one person who will be produced in Thane sessions court on Sunday.

Among the four call centers, two are based in the Kashimira police station jurisdiction, one in Mira Road police station's jurisdiction and another in Naya Nagar. "We have seized around 200 computers from different firms and have found the hard disks present in most of them," added the officer.

A few teams from the Thane crime branch went to Ahmedabad on Friday night and have kept a watch on call centres that have closed down suddenly. With the help of local informers the police are trying to trace the kingpin who allegedly operates from Ahmedabad.
