The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on Wednesday staged a protest on the steps of the Maharashtra legislature, raising concerns over issues faced by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants. Opposition leaders accused the state government of failing to address alleged examination irregularities and recruitment-related concerns.

Opposition raises concerns over examination irregularities

The protest was led by leaders and legislators from the Opposition alliance, who demanded justice for MPSC aspirants across the state. MVA leaders alleged that repeated examination irregularities and paper leak incidents had eroded the confidence of students preparing for competitive examinations.

Opposition members raised slogans against the government and called for accountability in the conduct of recruitment and examination processes. They argued that recurring controversies surrounding examinations were affecting the careers of thousands of students and creating uncertainty about recruitment procedures.

During the demonstration, leaders also criticised the government over what they described as a lack of action against those responsible for examination-related irregularities. They demanded stricter measures to prevent future paper leak cases and ensure transparency in the recruitment system.

Opposition targets government over inflation and LPG price hike

The student-related protest came a day after Opposition parties intensified their criticism of the government during the ongoing monsoon session of the state legislature by staging a demonstration against inflation and the recent increase in LPG cylinder prices.

MVA leaders and legislators gathered outside the Vidhan Bhavan and accused the government of failing to control rising prices of essential commodities. They claimed that increasing household expenses were placing additional pressure on families, particularly women and economically weaker sections.

Opposition legislators raised slogans targeting the government over inflation and the rising cost of cooking gas. Protesters argued that the increase in LPG prices had added to the financial burden faced by households already coping with higher costs of daily necessities.

Farm loan waiver demand remains a key Opposition plank

Farmers' concerns have also emerged as a major point of confrontation between the ruling alliance and the Opposition during the legislature session. On Monday, Opposition parties organised a separate protest demanding a comprehensive farm loan waiver.

The demonstration was led by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and Ambadas Danve, along with Congress leader Satej Patil. Opposition legislators alleged that conditions attached to the government's recently announced farm debt relief package could prevent many farmers from receiving benefits under the scheme.

The protesters demanded a complete farm loan waiver and urged the government to implement relief measures without restrictive eligibility criteria.

Opposition questions provisions of debt relief scheme

The Maharashtra government recently announced a farm debt relief programme aimed at assisting farmers facing financial stress. However, Opposition leaders have questioned several provisions of the scheme, claiming that technical conditions and eligibility requirements could exclude a large number of beneficiaries.

Earlier this month, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar also voiced concerns over the debt relief package and called for a broader farm loan waiver. Opposition parties have maintained that the agricultural sector requires wider support measures and easier access to government assistance.

Students, inflation and farm distress dominate legislature session

With the monsoon session underway, issues related to students, inflation and agricultural distress continue to dominate the Opposition's agenda, setting the stage for further political confrontations between the ruling alliance and the MVA in the legislature.
