Two injured after MMRDA crane falls on railway overhead equipment (Pic/Special arrangement)
A hydraulic crane fell onto high-tension railway overhead wires in the Kurla-Trombay section during the early hours of Friday, August 21, leaving 10 people injured and damaging vehicles and structures in the vicinity.
According to Central Railway (CR), the incident has affected a single railway line primarily used for goods train movement. Regular passenger train services were not impacted.
A total of 10 people were injured in the incident. Eight were shifted to Sion Hospital, while two were admitted to Kurla Bhabha Hospital.

As per the officials both the victims are under treatment and are in stable condition.
MMRDA while issuing an official statement about the incident said, "Demolition work was being undertaken at Building No. 1, Bhandari Metallurgy, Kurla. A crane had been brought to the site for the work; however, crane operations had not commenced."
While the crane was being positioned at the site, it tilted and fell towards an adjoining structure. The ground at the location was soft, which appears to have affected the stability of the crane.
Some persons sustained minor injuries in the incident. MMRDA is providing all necessary medical assistance and support to the injured persons.
They also added, "MMRDA immediately mobilised the required machinery and manpower, and removal of the fallen crane is being undertaken on priority. The site has been secured and all necessary precautionary measures are being taken."
The demolition work was being carried out by M/s Sunny Company. During the operation, a portion of the hydraulic crane fell onto the high-tension railway overhead wires.
The falling equipment also affected nearby slum huts at Qureshi Nagar, the road at Samrat Ashok Nagar, the compound wall of an MHADA building and three to four four-wheelers parked inside the MHADA building compound, according to preliminary information.
Earlier, officials had said the incident occurred during work being carried out in connection with a proposed eviction and demolition operation at the site.
Restoration and safety measures are being undertaken at the site, while authorities are monitoring the situation.
Officials are also gathering information to ascertain whether anyone else could still be trapped at the incident site.
