Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to resolve the ongoing agitation by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants through dialogue, saying she has personally intervened to help break the deadlock.

Sule said she had spoken to Fadnavis and requested that the agitation be paused to create space for discussions between the government and the protesting students.

Sule seeks pause in MPSC agitation

Speaking to reporters, Sule said she was waiting for a response from Pramod Patil, who was expected to convey instructions from the chief minister to the protesting students.

"I had called the Chief Minister and urged that the agitation be paused so a solution could be found through dialogue. Pramod Patil was to convey certain instructions from the Chief Minister to the students and was supposed to call me after the discussion. I am awaiting his call," she said.

The agitation has been linked to concerns raised by MPSC aspirants over examination procedures, recruitment irregularities and the handling of disputed examinations.

Drug Inspector recruitment cancelled

One of the major issues fuelling concerns among aspirants is the cancellation of the MPSC recruitment process for Drug Inspector posts in the Food and Drug Administration department.

The commission cancelled the recruitment process in August following complaints of alleged malpractice in the screening examination held on March 22. The examination was conducted offline at six divisional headquarters across Maharashtra, with the result declared on June 12.

506 candidates had qualified for interviews

According to the recruitment timeline, 506 candidates were initially found eligible for interviews after the screening examination. Of these, 488 candidates appeared for interviews conducted between July 1 and July 22.

The commission subsequently published a provisional merit list containing 488 candidates. Complaints alleging that some candidates had received the question paper or questions before the March 22 examination were received between July 22 and July 26.

The complaints prompted a preliminary inquiry, following which the recruitment process was cancelled. The commission has decided that a fresh examination will be conducted for the Drug Inspector posts.

Government had already announced measures

The latest appeal comes days after Fadnavis met representatives of protesting MPSC aspirants. Following the meeting, the government announced measures including the transfer of MPSC Secretary Mahendra Harpalkar, a judicial inquiry into the conduct of former and current commission office-bearers, continued use of offline examinations and a broader recruitment plan. The aspirants subsequently suspended a proposed October 2 protest.
