Yesterday was a relatively peaceful voting day, barring a few untoward incidents. Byculla constituency candidate and Arun Gawli's daughter Geeta approached cops claiming that she was verbally abused by MNS workers, who also damaged her car, when she was standing at a polling station. "We have registered her complaint and are investigating the matter," said S Jayakumar, deputy commissioner of police, Zone III.

Cash for votes
On Wednesday morning, Parkside police station at Vikhroli (East) received information that two women were distributing cash near Sandesh Vidyalaya.

"The duo, identified as Laxmi Navsupe and Megha Mhatre, were distributing money on behalf of Congress candidate Sandesh Mhatre. They had made around 83 bundles of R1.66 lakh," said an officer from Parkside police station. The accused, however, claimed that the money was meant for refreshments for polling officials.

MNS workers verbally abused her and damaged her car

In the second incident, RCF Police in Chembur received information that one person was distributing cash on behalf of Chandrakant Handore, former social justice minister and Congress candidate. Cops nabbed the accused, identified as Niloba Sarode. "He has been booked under section 171 (e) (Bribery) of the Indian Penal Code," said Dhanajay Kulkarni, deputy commissioner of police.

On Tuesday night the Election Commission squad, had seized around Rs 24 lakh from a man, identified as Rajendra Bhardwaj, at Fashion Street. "He had hidden the money under the driver's seat of his Innova car. He could not give any explanation about the money. The EC squad has informed the Income tax department," said Narendra Singh, senior inspector at Azad Maidan police station.
