Fire fighters run out of water midway thanks to inflammable material inside the building

Plastic and bamboo inside the building made it difficult for the fire officials to enter the area

A Fire broke out at the Parekh Cloth Mill at Italian Industrial Estate, near Oberoi mall in Goregaon early this morning. According to the fire brigade, the incident started around 6.30 am at the ground floor of the ground plus three storey building. Soon after the incident, eight fire engines were rushed to the site with water tankers and an ambulance.

Lucky workers
According to the locals, the company usually starts work from 8 am and downs shutters at 8 pm. Fortunately, there were no workers on the premises when the fire started.

Water shortage
Sources revealed that because the place contained highly inflammable material such as cloth and chemicals, the fire was very tough to control or douse and had been spreading at a rapid rate.

"The building does not have a fire fighting system and hence we needed an additional water supply pipeline from the building itself. But, there was none available. We had to arrange for more water from elsewhere and finally managed to douse the fire," said Abhay Kale, deputy fire officer.

Fire officials later found that there was an area of around 25 feet that had been encroached inside the premises and it was there that the fire had broken out. This space was covered in plastic and bamboo, which had made it difficult for fire officials to enter the premises.
