A 24-year-old man died after falling into an open drain in Mumbai's Juhu area on Saturday afternoon, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The incident was reported at 12.09 pm in the JVPD Scheme area on V.P. Marg, Juhu, Andheri West. According to the BMC, members of the public noticed that a man had fallen into the open drain and alerted authorities.
The BMC said personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade reached the spot and rescued the man from the drain. He was identified as Nihal Nazim Mirza, 24.
The victim was transported to Cooper Hospital in a private ambulance for medical treatment.
According to the BMC, doctors at Cooper Hospital declared Mirza dead on arrival. The municipal body said the death was confirmed by the hospital's concerned Chief Medical Officer.
In another incident, a 17-year boy was feared drowned in the Arabian Sea off Aksa beach in Mumbai on Friday afternoon, and a search operation was underway to trace him, officials said.
The incident occurred between INS Hamala and the Shitaladevi temple in Malad (West) at 3.53 pm, a civic official said.
The teenager was identified as Mazid Khan.
On being informed, teams of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's fire brigade, police and a 108 ambulance were rushed to the spot, he said.
At the request of the fire brigade, the Navy was also informed to mobilise a rescue team for the search operation, the official said.
In a bizarre accident, a 25-year-old man bled to death after an airbag unexpectedly deployed inside a parked vehicle in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred in the Kashimira area on Wednesday when the victim, a car dealer, was inside a 15-year-old car, and the safety system suddenly triggered, an official said.
The airbag deployed, and the massive impact left him with severe injuries, leading to fatal blood loss before he could receive medical aid.
According to a preliminary probe, despite its age, official records indicate that the car still held a valid fitness certificate, the official said, adding that the police have registered a case of accidental death and have launched an investigation and are consulting automobile experts.
