The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking has announced a series of measures to ensure that passenger services continue smoothly during the ongoing strike called by the BEST Sanyukta Kamgar Kruti Samiti, an official statement said.
According to a press release issued on June 20, 2026, the administration has been closely monitoring the situation and implementing steps to minimise inconvenience to commuters across Mumbai.
As part of its response to the strike, the administration served notices under the Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act (MESMA) to employees participating in the industrial action.
MESMA notices were also issued to wet lease contractors associated with bus operations.
Officials said the move was aimed at ensuring the continuity of essential public transport services during the strike period.
To reduce the impact of the disruption, the administration requested assistance from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), the statement said.
The state transport body was asked to provide 100 buses to support passenger movement and help meet travel demand across the city.
Recognising the importance of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the administration has made special transport arrangements for students appearing for the examination, it said.
A total of 60 additional buses have been deployed to serve 63 examination centres across Mumbai.
The buses will operate between 9 am and 1 pm, as well as between 5 pm and 7 pm, to assist students travelling to and from examination venues.
Instructions regarding these arrangements have been issued to depot managers throughout the city.
The undertaking clarified that the strike has not affected its electricity supply operations.
Officials stated that all essential power services are functioning normally and that there has been no disruption to electricity distribution in areas served by BEST, the statement said.
BEST officials reiterated that providing safe, reliable and uninterrupted services to passengers remains the administration's highest priority.
It said that it will continue to implement all possible measures to minimise the effects of the strike while maintaining essential transport and electricity services for Mumbai residents.
