The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday inaugurated a new state-of-the-art municipal school complex at Tilak Marg in Ghatkopar East, aimed at providing students with modern, technology-enabled, and inclusive education.
The ground-plus-six-storey complex was inaugurated in the presence of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde and local legislator Parag Shah. The event was attended by civic officials, elected representatives, students, parents, and local residents.
Four municipal schools are currently functioning in the new complex, catering to 789 students, including kindergarten students.
The schools include Tilak Marg Hindi, Tilak Marg Marathi, Kamaraj Nagar Hindi, and Kamaraj Nagar Marathi.
The building houses 38 classrooms, 25 smaller rooms, an auditorium, and 14 other facility rooms. A new English-medium kindergarten is also being introduced.
The school complex features a computer laboratory, science laboratory, astronomy laboratory, library, psychological therapy lab and virtual classroom to support students' academic and overall development.
Students from several neighbourhoods, including Kamaraj Nagar, Vikrant Circle, Ramabai Sahakar Nagar, Rajawadi, Netaji Nagar, Cheda Nagar, Garodia Nagar, Tilak Marg, Chembur and Vikhroli, are expected to benefit from the new facilities.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Ritu Tawde said the modern complex would provide students with a positive and energetic learning environment.
She said efforts were being made to facilitate educational visits by municipal school students to institutions such as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Tawde also highlighted initiatives such as âScience Monday' and âMath Thursday' aimed at developing students' interest in science and mathematics.
She added that 27 school-use items are being provided free of cost to students in BMC schools.
Local MLA Parag Shah announced a personal donation of Rs 5 lakh for various requirements of the school complex.
Shah praised the building's construction and design and stressed the need to maintain cleanliness and ensure the safety of students while providing quality education.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Education) Dr Prachi Jambhekar said schools were shifted to the new premises in phases after construction was completed and the new academic year began.
The civic body said the complex has been developed to provide students from different neighbourhoods with quality education and modern facilities under one roof, with the aim of setting a new benchmark for municipal school infrastructure.
