Mumbai: Bombay Stock Exchange gets bomb threats, sparks widespread panic

A bomb threat email sent to the official email addresses of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday morning sparked widespread panic and a massive security response around Dalal Street and the entire South Mumbai area.

As per the reports, the email, which was received by the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday morning, claimed that there are four RDX IED bombs that had been planted in the BSE tower building and would explode at 3 PM.

Upon receiving the threat, the officials from the Bombay Stock Exchange alerted the police, following which bomb squad teams and local police units reached the location and carried out a thorough inspection of the premises.

While informing about the tense situation, the police officials said that "the incident occurred at the Bombay Stock Exchange Building, Dalal Street, Fort, Mumbai on Tuesday."

While some of the sources addressing this tense situation said that "an unknown person who claims his name is ‘Comrade Pinarai Vijayan' sent a threatening message from various email IDs to several BSE email accounts on Sunday."

In the email, the sender claimed, "There are four RDX-laden improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted inside the building. The message further warned that the first explosion would occur at 3:00 PM."

Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered at the MRA Marg police station. The police officials and other authorities have been working with utmost seriousness to counter the threat.
