Mumbai residents gave an enthusiastic response to a special rakhi exhibition organised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ahead of Raksha Bandhan, with handmade rakhis and other products made by women's self-help groups and students with disabilities drawing attention.
The exhibition was organised at the BMC headquarters and administrative ward offices to promote women's self-help groups and provide them with direct access to customers and a wider market for their products.
The exhibition, organised based on the concept and planning of Meenal Turde, chairperson of the BMC Women and Child Welfare Committee, through the Planning Department, featured a range of products made by women's self-help groups.
Visitors could purchase eco-friendly rakhis, homemade food products, decorative items and handicrafts, among other products.
Citizens, BMC officials, and employees visited the stalls and purchased rakhis and other items, providing a boost to the participating groups ahead of the festival.
Rakhis made by students with disabilities from BMC-run special schools were among the highlights of the exhibition.
The students designed and handmade a variety of rakhis, which received special appreciation from visitors. The initiative also provided them with a platform to showcase their creativity and artistic skills while helping build their confidence.
Several civic leaders and senior officials visited the exhibition at the BMC headquarters and purchased rakhis.
Those who visited included Leader of Opposition Kishori Pednekar, Shiv Sena Group Leader Amey Ghole, BEST Committee Chairperson Trishna Vishwasrao, Women and Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Meenal Turde, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Prajakta Verma-Lavangare, Meena Kamble, and corporator Vakar Khan.
The special rakhi exhibition was held at the BMC headquarters and all administrative ward offices on August 24 from 10 am to 6 pm.
The exhibition will continue at all BMC administrative ward offices on August 25 from 10 am to 6 pm, giving residents another opportunity to purchase the products.
The exhibition is aimed at helping women's self-help groups reach customers directly, increase sales and promote their skills and economic self-reliance.
Meenal Turde and members of the Women and Child Welfare Committee have appealed to Mumbai residents to visit the exhibition at their nearest BMC ward office and support the women's groups and students with disabilities by purchasing their handmade products.
