Mumbai Crime: Murder convict who jumped parole held after 17 years

The Thane Crime Branch has arrested a 48-year-old murder convict who jumped parole and was absconding for past 17 years. He was arrested from Sultanpur, UP

The Thane Crime Branch has arrested a 48-year-old murder convict who jumped parole and was absconding for past 17 years. He was arrested from Sultanpur, UP. The Sessions court gave three people including Vedprakash Virendra Kumar Singh, life imprisonment in 1997, for killing Ramnarayan Kharbani in 1994.

Vedprakash was serving life term at Yerawada Central Jail. "On June, 18, 2001, he went on parole and didn't return. Hemant Shivaji Korade of Yerawada Jail registered a case against him at Vartak Nagar police station under Section 224 (Resistance to lawful apprehension) of IPC," said Nitin Thakre, Senior Inspector, Thane Crime Branch, Unit 1. Sambhaji More, a constable with Thane Crime Branch, received information about Vedprakash. A police team went to UP and caught him.
