A 28-year-old woman, who was hunting for property with her husband in the Shamnagar slums in Jogeswari, was gangraped there on Monday night.

The couple had finalised a shanty there with the help of a woman, who offered them to stay the night at her place till they got possession of theirs the next day. She then left them there, but as the couple was talking, eight men appeared out of nowhere and raped the woman. The Amboli police has arrested all the eight accused in the case.

How it happened
The couple, as they were talking in the shanty, was overheard by the accused who claimed they came to check in on the commotion. Then under the garb of claiming that they knew it was someone else's house, they took the husband aside and began questioning him, later threatening him and forcing him out of the house. Four of the eight men then raped the woman.

Kamlesh, a local, said, "I heard the woman screaming for help. The police has questioned me and I told them that there were a few local boys seen entering the house and the woman was heard from the house."

Police says
ACP DN Nagar Division, Arun Chavan, said, "The FIR was lodged at around 2 am on Tuesday and seven accused were arrested by early morning. The eighth accused was arrested in the afternoon. Further investigations in the matter are underway."

The alleged accused have been arrested by the Amboli police under the relevant sections of the IPC. The victim, meanwhile, has been undergoing treatment in a Vile Parle hospital.
