Before OTT ruled our worlds, there were only a few channels that provided a pastime, and Dinyar Tirandaz was a familiar presence on them. His passing on Thursday cast a pall on the community of actors, and friends across the city. The actor was part of television series such as Nukkad, Zabaan Sambhal Ke, and Hip Hip Hurray as well as films like Chalte Chalte and Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya among many others. He also helmed CenterStage productions with wife, Roshan. Theatre veteran Farid Currim recalled, "He had a genial presence, and a warm laughter. He was always friendly."

Director Saeed Akhtar Mirza, who worked with the actor in Nukkad, shared "He came into our life like a meteor; he simply barged into the audition room, and took over. Shooting spaces can be slightly somber, but he made it friendly and enjoyable to be on set. An unannounced human being who brought cheer and laughter where he went. I wish strength for his wife, and the family."

The humour was a trademark with Tirandaz, said Tannaz Irani. Irani first shared stage with his wife, Roshan, before working with the actor on Zabaan Sambhal Ke, shared, "As Mr Keki, he would sit right behind me in the show, and constantly tease me, make signature Parsi jokes and making everyone laugh. Don't forget he was a veteran on the stage, and a theatre actor first. I knew him as a close friend over the years, and he always remained genial."

Flute maestro Rakesh Chaurasia is playing a happy tune on his bansuri this week. On June 10, Chaurasia was named as one of the 108 recipients of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, considered one of India's highest national honours in the field of performing arts. The flautist has previously bagged two Grammy Awards in 2024 for his contribution to the album As We Speak in collaboration with the late Ustad Zakir Hussain. Nonetheless, the national recognition came as a pleasant surprise, we learnt.
"I am especially delighted as this is the first government award that has been conferred upon me in my career. I feel honoured and grateful to receive this recognition," he shared. Chaurasia found himself in musical company in the list of awardees, including renowned Indian classical musicians Arun Kashalkar, Anand Bhate, Komanduri Seshadri, and Bharat Bhushan Goswami.

Mumbai's rains will witness a colourful transformation with The Monsoon Festival at Ballard Pier, curated by Srila Chatterjee. Opening on June 21, it will run till July 19 at the historic cruise terminal in Ballard Estate.

The month-long festival will bring together art, music, sport, food and design. A fascinating attraction is The Flower Shop - a large-scale handcrafted installation created with artisans from across India, alongside rotating weekly showcases of premium lifestyle and design brands.

Street artist Mooz (Raj Pathare) is turning childhood fandom into a full-circle moment through collaboration with SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron. On June 20 and 21, he will create a live graffiti mural at Core Fandom at a BKC venue, which is inspired by the iconic cartoon.

"I grew up watching SWAT Kats, and used to sketch the characters in my notebooks," said Mooz. "When I met the creators, Christian and Yvon Tremblay, I painted a skateboard overnight, and got it autographed. This collaboration feels unreal."
