Play with purpose

Children play football during a session in Dharavi

Not every lesson begins in a classroom; sometimes it can be on a playground. Global Day of Play, hosted by Coaches Across Continents on August 27, will bring together children across 36 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania to learn about climate action, mental health, gender equality along with other social issues through sport.

Using football, frisbee and other locally preferred games, the initiative aims to equip young people with skills that extend far beyond the field. Sport is a language every child understands, and it happens to be a powerful tool for change," added coach Govind Rathod.

Gino Banks discusses the relationship between music and mathematics

With talks and performances by musicians including Zubin Balaporia, Aditya Kalyanpur, and Gino Banks, the evening will reveal how numbers shape rhythm and melody. "Whether it's a jazz groove or a Hindustani taal, numbers provide the framework that holds music together," said Banks.

Everybody loves Bandra

ALL roads lead to Bandra, going by the spate of openings in the suburb. The latest is Bndra W in Pali Hill, an all-day dining destination that brings together breakfast favourites, globally inspired comfort food, artisanal bakes and a curated cocktail programme.

Romeo Sharma

Conceived by Romeo Sharma, Francesca Smith and Suved Lohia Hospitality, the space is inspired by its everyday rhythm. "The space was born from our love for Bandra, and the way the neighbourhood exists," said co-founder Sharma. It will transition seamlessly from morning coffee to late-night conversations.

If you were a teenager in 2016, chances are songs like Don't Let Me Down, Closer and Something Just Like This were on every playlist, house party and college fest soundtrack. A few years later, the duo, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart of The Chainsmokers - are heading back to India. The EDM stars will return to Mumbai on December 18, to headline Sunburn Festival at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse.
