The Santacruz police detained three men for drunk driving after they took their car for a reckless joyride on Juhu beach and ended up driving straight into the sea. The accused - Najib Abdul Sayed, 42, a resident of Andhra Pradesh; Tarun Yadav, 36, a Khar West-based businessman; and Brijesh Soni, 33, from Madhya Pradesh - were reportedly under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred around 8 pm on July 11.
Constable Nitin Jaybhaye of Santacruz police station, who filed the complaint, spotted the speeding vehicle on the beach before it suddenly veered into the seawater and got stuck in the sand. "They were driving the car into the sea when it got stuck. Their joyride turned into a disaster as they started yelling and blaming each other for the mess," said a police officer.
It took the police two hours and the help of a tractor to extract the vehicle from the wet sand. The car was seized, and the three men were taken to the police station. "An FIR was registered after confirming that the trio had consumed alcohol and entered the beach in violation of the law," said the officer. "They were detained and later released with a notice to appear for investigation. Their car remains in police custody."
