An electric fire broke out in an 18-storey building in Andheri West on Saturday, tearing through a gymnasium, lobby and lift chamber on the first floor. All residents were evacuated safely. One resident and three firemen were taken to Cooper Hospital for treatment due to smoke inhalation. All four are in stable condition, said officials.
The fire started at 2.10 pm in the electrical shaft in C wing of Chandiwala Pearl Regency building. Mumbai Fire Brigade officials told Sunday mid-day, "A total of 27 residents [from the first to third floor] were evacuated. Nine residents from various other floors were rescued by ladder owing to smoke logging."
