The bodies of father and son after being pulled out. PICS/BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT
A father and his son drowned in a pond while trying to catch crabs in the Appa Pada area of Kandivli East on Saturday evening. Police said the boy began drowning, and his father jumped in to rescue him, but both lost their lives.
The victims, identified as Eknath Patil, 50, and his son Vaishnav Patil, 17, were residents of Kranti Nagar in Kandivli. The Kurar police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and launched an investigation.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when Eknath and Vaishnav went to catch crabs in a pond located in Appa Pada.
A police officer said, "Vaishnav was in the pond catching crabs while his father was sitting nearby. A few moments later, Eknath noticed his son struggling in the water. In a desperate attempt to save him, he jumped in, but he too got trapped underwater, and both drowned."
Police said the pond is about 17 feet deep. Preliminary investigations suggest that Vaishnav slipped while catching crabs, which led to the drowning.
