Mumbai FDA finds hygiene violations at Cafe Cadell, cockroach infestation at Mulund eatery

Shivaji Park's popular Cafe Cadell is among the establishments facing action by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) who suspended its FSSAI licence. An inspection on August 20 found several serious violations.

The FDA said the eatery lacked adequate ventilation, had inadequate personal hygiene facilities and did not have records for testing drinking water used for food preparation. It also found no proper insect-proof screens, inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, poor staff hygiene and lapses in cleaning and sanitisation.

In another serious case, China Town Fast Food Centre at Mulund East, was found operating in conditions that FDA described as posing potential health risk to consumers. Inspectors found excessive use of artificial colour and MSG, repeatedly used and highly oxidised cooking oil, and active cockroach and insect infestation.
