Fire breaks out at godown in Mumbai's Kurla, no injuries reported

A fire broke out at a godown in Kurla area of Mumbai, civic officials said on Thursday, adding that so far no injuries have been reported in the incident.

According to the officials, the blaze was initially categorised as a level-II fire. By 11:44 pm, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) escalated the incident to a Level-III (major) fire, as flames spread across 10 to 12 chawl structures (hutments).

A large emergency response was deployed to the site

"It was reported at a godown in Khalil Shaikh Chawl at Kismat Nagar in Kurla (West). The godown is located opposite to Kapadia Nagar," an official said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Fire Brigade received the call at 11:08 pm.

The fire reportedly broke out in a godown within the chawl.

Multiple agencies were mobilised to control the fire, including the BMC Fire Brigade, local police, ward staff from BMC, the Electricity Distribution Company, and a 108 ambulance team.
