A fire broke out at a hotel in the Kurla area of Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon, civic officials said, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident.
The blaze began on the ground floor of the two-storey Sunlight Hotel, located near Sheetal Talao on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road, at 3:39 pm, according to Mumbai civic body.
Four fire engines and other emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene, and firefighting operations were quickly initiated.
Personnel from multiple agencies, including the police, 108 ambulance service, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward office, were present at the site to assist with firefighting and ensure public safety.
So far, no injuries have been reported in the incident.
In an another incident, earlier this week, four people including a couple, their daughter and 3-year-old granddaughter were killed after a fire broke out in their two-storey house in Maharashtra's Sangli district on Monday, police said, reported the PTI.
An official said that the blaze initially erupted at around 9 am in a shop of utensils and electric items located on the ground floor of the house at Savarkar Nagar in Vita town of Sangli, an official said.
A suspected short circuit caused the blaze, which spread on the first and second floors, where the family was staying. The house had a narrow exit and the victims were unable to escape from there, he said, according to the PTI.
Four members of the family were killed. They have been identified as Vishnu Joshi (50), his wife Sunanda Joshi (46), daughter Priyanka Yogesh Ingle (30) and a granddaughter Srushti (3), he said, as per the PTI.
Another family member, Suresh Joshi (20), suffered injuries in the incident, the official said.
After being alerted, the police and fire brigade rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation, he said.
Earlier, a fire was reported in the early hours of Monday at the Thomas Cook office located in the Corporate Park Building on Sion-Trombay Road, Chembur East. Officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) said that the incident was first reported at around 1:38 am.
According to the MFB, the blaze was classified as a Level II (major) fire. It originated on the second floor of the ground-plus-two-storey glass facade building and was confined to the office area spanning approximately 2,000 sq. ft. The fire affected electric wiring, installations, office furniture, records, UPS battery backup systems, false ceilings, wooden doors, and glass frames.
The fire escalated from a Level I at 1:55 am to Level II by 2:50 am, before being brought under control by 4:28 am. The flames were completely extinguished by 4:33 am, and the final "fire make-up" operation was completed at 6:15 am, marking the end of the firefighting response.
No injuries have been reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is underway.
