A Level-I fire broke out at a commercial premises in Mumbai's Kandivali West early on Wednesday morning, damaging electrical installations, office equipment, stored goods and a temporary monsoon shed. No injuries were reported in the incident, officials said.
The fire was reported to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) control room at 5.09 am from a property located on Charkop Road, opposite Hindustan Naka, Plot No. 118/D, near Sandhya Bar in Kandivali West.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the blaze was confined to electrical wiring, electrical installations, electric motors, iron rods, computer accessories, office furniture, office records, papers, packing machines, laser machines, stock of pens and corrugated boxes stored in the loft area.
The fire also spread to a temporary monsoon shed erected in the open space, where it damaged tarpaulin sheets, bamboo structures, stock of pens and an electric bike.
Officials said the affected area measured approximately 5,000 square feet on each floor.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade declared the incident a Level-I fire at 5.20 am and launched firefighting operations.
The blaze was brought under control and fully extinguished at 8.35 am after more than three hours of firefighting efforts.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate incident, three people sustained burns after a gas leak sparked a fire in a house in Mumbai's eastern suburb Mulund on Sunday evening, civic officials said.
The incident occurred around 5.30 pm at Aman Nagar in the Khindipada area when a technician was carrying out some maintenance work, they said.
The official said that the fire was brought under control and extinguished soon after.
The injured were identified as Pramila Vishwakarma (50), who suffered around 40 per cent burns, Aradhana Vishwakarma (24) with sustained about 20 per cent burns, and Mohammad (52), who suffered nearly 30 per cent burns, he said.
All three were admitted to civic-run Agrawal Hospital in Mulund for treatment, the official said.
