Fire Breaks out near GTB Nagar Railway Station in Mumbai, no injuries reported

A fire broke out in a pile of garbage along the railway tracks near GTB Nagar railway station in Sion-Koliwada on Monday evening, sending thick smoke into the surrounding area and raising concerns among commuters and local residents, officials said.

According to local residents, accumulated garbage along the railway tracks suddenly caught fire, with smoke spreading around the station area.

The incident caused concern because of the proximity of the flames to the railway tracks and other material kept alongside the tracks.

Residents seek action

Residents claimed that neither the Railway Police nor the fire brigade had reached the spot at the time the incident was reported.

They expressed concern that the fire could spread if immediate action was not taken, particularly given the presence of combustible waste near the tracks.

Garbage accumulation raises safety concerns

The incident has also highlighted concerns over the accumulation of garbage along the railway track.

Residents alleged that waste frequently remains piled up in the area, creating a potential fire and safety hazard.

They have urged railway authorities and the civic administration to clear the garbage, monitor the area regularly and take preventive measures to avoid similar incidents.

Cops rush to spot

According to the railway police, the blaze was reported in a pile of garbage near a public bridge close to GTB Nagar railway station. The garbage heap was located on the Panvel-bound side of the station, around 300 metres from GTB Nagar railway station.

After receiving information about the fire, personnel from the Wadala Railway Police Station reached the spot.

With the help of local residents, the police managed to completely extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control without any reported injuries or loss of life, police said.
