A massive fire broke out on the seventh floor of a residential building in Bandra West on Wednesday night, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) said in a press release.
As per the officials, a 64-year-old man lost his life while two firefighters were hospitalised after a fire broke out in a residential building in Mumbai's Bandra West on Wednesday night, officials said.
According to an update issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire was reported at 9:12 pm on June 17 at the Atlantic Building on Sherly Rajan Road in Bandra West. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) later declared it a Level-I fire at 9:55 pm.
The blaze was confined to electric wiring, electrical installations and household articles inside Rooms 701 and 702 on the seventh floor of the ground-plus-seven-storey residential building.
Multiple emergency agencies, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, the 108 ambulance service, Adani Electricity Distribution Company and BMC ward staff, were mobilised to the spot to carry out firefighting and rescue operations.
According to information received from doctors at Bandra Bhabha Hospital, three people were affected by the incident. Azim Barodawala, a 64-year-old resident, was declared dead after being rushed to the hospital.
Two firefighters sustained injuries during the operation due to smoke inhalation. Fireman Shivshankar Bharat Puri, 32, and Fireman Navnath Mohan Bite, 34, were admitted to the hospital with suffocation-related ailments. Hospital authorities said both are in stable condition.
Fire brigade personnel worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is expected to be investigated.
