The car involved in the mishap
Four people participating in the KG Margcha Raja Ganpati immersion procession were injured after a Honda City allegedly rammed into participants near Indra Tower on Kaka Saheb Gadgil Marg in Prabhadevi on Friday night, during Anant Chaturdashi.
The four suffered minor injuries, while police detained the 21-year-old driver, Pranav Rakesh Agrawal, and took him for a medical examination.
Statements of the injured were being recorded and during the early hours of Saturday police registered the FIR. However, the KG Margcha Raja mandal stated the car first hit the Ganpati trolley during the procession. When mandal workers approached the driver to question him about the incident, he allegedly drove the vehicle towards them. The mandal claimed that five to six people were hit and that the driver subsequently left the spot.
In a separate incident, 68-year-old Vijay Aanekar, a Lalbaug resident, died after falling unconscious near the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal on Thursday night. According to police, he was resting close to the pandal when he suddenly collapsed. He was declared brought dead at Global Hospital, Parel.
