Senior IAS officer Ashwini Bhide has been appointed as the new Municipal Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Bhide's appointment as BMC Commissioner makes her the first woman to hold the top post in the civic body's history.

Ashwini Bhide replaces outgoing commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, who will retire from service on Tuesday, March 31.

Before being appointed as the BMC Commissioner, Bhide was serving as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office under Devendra Fadnavis.
