A Central Railway ticket-checking staff member displayed exceptional courage and compassion by carrying an injured passenger to safety after she collapsed at Dombivli railway station on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on August 5 at Platform No 5, where Vrushali Sawant Jadhav, head ticket collector at Dombivli, noticed a 23-year-old woman, identified as Pooja, fall on the platform after alighting from a train. Amid the rush, several other passengers accidentally stumbled over her, leaving her injured and unable to get up.

Jadhav immediately rushed to the woman's aid and alerted the station announcer to arrange for a licensed porter.

However, realising that the passenger required urgent medical attention, she decided not to wait for assistance.

Displaying remarkable presence of mind and dedication to duty, Jadhav lifted the injured passenger in her arms and carried her to the station manager's office. The woman was then promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Central Railway commended Jadhav's swift and humane response, stating that her timely intervention ensured the injured passenger received immediate medical care.

The railway administration also appealed to passengers to exercise caution while boarding and alighting from trains and urged commuters to allow passengers to get off before attempting to board.

Reiterating its commitment to passenger safety, Central Railway said it remains proud of its frontline staff who go beyond the call of duty to assist passengers in distress.

Central Railway staff saves disabled passenger from moving train at Lonavala

Two Central Railway employees displayed exceptional courage and quick thinking after rescuing a physically challenged passenger who slipped while attempting to board a moving train at Lonavala railway station on Wednesday evening, an official statement said.

The timely intervention by a pointsman and a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable prevented what could have been a fatal accident.

The incident occurred at around 6.32 pm on July 29, shortly after the 11030 Kolhapur-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Koyna Express departed from Lonavala station.

According to Central Railway, the passenger, identified as Amit, a resident of Karjat, attempted to board a general second-class coach while using crutches. He lost his balance and fell beside the moving train.

Pointsman Vallentine D'Souza and RPF constable Sikandara Sahani, who were on duty at the railway station, immediately noticed the incident.

Without hesitation, both rushed towards the passenger and pulled him away from the moving train, safely preventing him from coming under the wheels.

Their prompt action saved the passenger from serious injury or death.

Railway officials said Amit was in shock after the incident.

Station staff provided him with first aid and counselling before ensuring he was comfortably accommodated on the next available train to continue his journey.

Central Railway commended both employees for their alertness, courage and presence of mind, describing their actions as an example of dedication to passenger safety.
